Summer Series of Training Events, 2017

As a Triathlon Club, we want to give our members loads of Triathlon Race practice.  For the last number of years, the club has hosted a ‘Summer Training Tri Series’.  This is a series of 10 races for members of Tralee Triathlon Club.

This year, these races will take place on a mix of Tuesday evenings, Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings during the summer with the exception of the week before our Club Race, Tri Kingdom Come.

We will also host Middle (70.3) and Standard (Olympic) distance races to support club members in preparation for their race season – such as IM Austria, Challenge Roth, Dublin 70.3, The Lost Sheep, IM Barcelona, etc, etc.

These races are training events and there is no charge.
Club Members only.
All members taking part are expected to take their turn to marshal/volunteer for one race in the series.

The schedule of our Summer Series is as follows:

  • Tuesday, May 16th, 18:45 hours – Duathlon
  • Thursday, June 1st, 18:45 hours – Aquathon
  • Sunday, June 11th, 07:00 hours – Middle (70.3) distance tri
  • Thursday, June 15th, 18:45 hours – Aqua-bike
  • Sunday, June 25th, 10:00 hours – Standard / Olympic distance tri
  • Tuesday, June 27th, 18:45 hours – Starter-sprint (try-a-tri) distance tri
  • Thursday, July 13th, 18:45 hours – Sprint and Starter-sprint (try-a-tri) distances
  • Friday, July 14th, 18:45 hours – Slip-to-Shore Open-Water Swim
  • Tuesday, August 15th, 18:45 hours – Race Director’s Sprint  and Starter-sprint (try-a-tri) distances
  • Tuesday, August 29th, 18:45 hours – Farewell-to-Summer Sprint and Starter-sprint (try-a-tri) distances

We know that race timing is important to you, so you can purchase your very own timing chip to use with the club timing system.
This chip is yours for life.
Only members that use one of these timing chips will be timed at club training events.

Spring Duathlon Series

Tralee Triathlon Club duathlon training series will commence on Wednesday, April 5th at 19:00 and will continue for 4 weeks in Fenit Parish Hall.

These sessions are ideal for all levels with the focus being on having fun while improving week on week.

Total cost for 4 weeks is €5, payable on the first night. Places limited so book quick!

The structure of the four weeks is as follows:

  • Wednesday 5th April: 3km Run, 20 mins Turbo, 3km Run
  • Wednesday 12th April: 3km Run, 20 mins Turbo, 3km Run
  • Wednesday 19th April: 5km Run, 20 mins Turbo, 5km Run
  • Wednesday 26th April: 5km Run, 20 mins Turbo, 5km Run

All participants must be registered club members and have their own turbo trainers and bikes. If individuals would like to participate but do not have a turbo trainer please contact us.

The series will be followed by an Outdoor Duathlon on Sunday, May 7th at 11am in Fenit.
The start/finish line will in the ar park outside Fenit Parish Hall.

Short Course:

  • 2.5km run
  • 10km bike
  • 2.5km run

Long Course:

  • 5km run
  • 20km bike
  • 2.5km run

Entry is free and is open to all 2017 members of TTC.

We require marshals for road safety and timing – we cannot run this event without marshals.

Complementary Activities

  • For TTC members that are also members of Tralee Bay Swimming Club (TBSC) the weekly no-wetsuit swims commenced on Sunday, October 11th in Fenit at 11:00 hours.
    9 “turkey” swims are planned between October and December.
  • The largest local Cycling Club, the Chain-Gang caters for leisure to sportive cyclists with weekly group spins at various speeds.
  • A 5km closed loop at Tralee Town Park serves as the location for the Saturday morning Park Run in Tralee.  Each event starts at 09:30 hours.  It is free to take part but you must register with park-run


 

Discover Trail Running

On Saturday, January 28th, we are holding a Discover Trail Running event in the beautiful local amenity of Glanageenty Forest Park.

Join coach Milosz and a group of “angel runners” that will be on-hand to guide you around the most beautiful 5km Lenihan loop.

Groups will be based on speed/ability so you will find a group that works for you.

Refreshments afterwards.

You must be a 2017 member of TTC to take part in this FREE event.

Aquathon

The Annual TTC Aquathon will take place on Sunday, January 22nd at Tralee Sports Complex.  Briefing shall take place at 10:30 am with swim sessions taking place between 11:00 am and 12:00 am.

Please bring the following:

  • A selection of different colored swim caps (so that you will have a different colored cap to those in your lane and your laps can be counted easily)
  • Some home baking or nibbles for refreshments after the event.
  • Swim gear (not wetsuit, just swim togs, caps as above, goggles, towels, warm clothes for after)
  • Sensible run gear (bring layers, rain gear and cap in case it is cold)

Thank you to our training events coordinator and Aquathon organiser Paula Casey for all the hard work she has put into this event.

Please also ensure that you are in the first swim wave if taking part in the aquathon so that you will be back from your run to assist your child/children with changing after their swim session.
There are five (5) different options for the swim:
  • 250m (10 lengths) in less than 30 minutes
  • 500m (20 lengths) in less than 30 minutes
  • 750m (30 lengths) in greater than 20 minutes
  • 750m (30 lengths) between 15 and 20 minutes
  • 750m (30 lengths) in less than 15 minutes
There are two (2)  different options for the run:
2.5km Run Course:
  • Start at start/finish area at Sports Complex
  • Turn left onto Cluain Dara
  • Proceed west on Cluain Dara, turning right onto Oakpark road (R878)
  • Proceed north on Oakpark road to Byrne’s Spar
  • Turn and return south on Oakpark road
  • Turn left onto Cluain Dara
  • Proceed east on Cluain Dara, turning right into Sports Complex and start/finish area

 

4.6km Run Course:

  • Start at start/finish area at Sports Complex
  • Turn left onto Cluain Dara
  • Turn right onto Oakpark road (R878)
  • Proceed north on Oakpark road turning right onto Bill Kinnerk road
  • Proceed east on Bill Kinnerk road, turning right onto Clash road
  • Proceed south on Clash road, turning west onto Racecourse road
  • Proceed west on Racecourse road, turning left on Oakpark road
  • Proceed south on Oakpark road, turning left onto Cluain Dara
  • Proceed east on Cluain Dara, turning right into Sports Complex and start/finish area
