Catch Up Race Report – Race 4 (Full Sprint & Try-A-Tri)
(This race report is for our full sprint and try-a-tri training event held on the 14th of July 2015)
With no sprint distance triathlon taking place this year in Tralee the next best thing was our very own training sprint distance triathlon. What else would you be doing on a Tuesday evening after work?!
The swim 750m, the cycle 20k and the run 5k, was definitely one of our top events of the year with a huge turn-out from the club both taking part and supporting the event.
The Tralee Triathlon Club mini Tri series are a key part of training and this is evident to see by the progress many of us are making.
Swimming has been difficult this year due to very rough and windy weather conditions but thankfully it was calmer than usual for this training and as the whistle went off it was all eyes on the buoys as we headed for shore.
The faster ones soon made progress through the water while the remainder put in their best efforts to keep up the rear and get out the water in the fastest time possible.
Then it was onto the transition which are also supposed to be fast although the drying of feet and putting on gloves and helmet takes a lot longer than one would think and after that it was off on the bike for a 20km cycle to O’Donnell’s roundabout. Just for the record it was actually a bit longer so even more training under the belt.
Finally it was a 5km run along the triathlon run route with a nice few hills added it to make it that bit more difficult.
And back to home the troops headed for pizza and chips to Mikes well deserved treats after a full Sprint Distance Triathlon on a Tuesday evening.
