It’s that time of year again when after a very mild autumn the winter chill is starting to hit the air. But that doesn’t stop our club members! What better way to spend your Sunday morning than putting in a good swim followed by a fast run or, as otherwise known an aquathon We’re not brave or reckless enough to go into the open water at the moment so the swimming pool in the Tralee Sports Complex had to suffice. Over 20 club members participated in the event which given the busy lives people have at this time of year wasn’t a bad turnout.
There were three different options for the swim:
- Beginner – 10 mins plus
- 750 Metres
- 1500 Metres
The event kicked off on time with staggered starting times to coincide to the estimated duration for each distance. Here is the start of the 1500m swim.
For those doing the distance swims there was a marshal at each lane whose job it was to count the laps for each swimmer. When the swimmer reached their penultimate lap the marshal signaled to them so that they knew when to finish.
Michelle Hoare put in a storming 1500m swim with the next person out of the pool a good 3 minutes behind her. Not that it was a race!
Straight out of the pool, a quick towel down and change into running gear and participants had one of two options for the run either 3 km or 5.6 km routes. Somehow a third 4 km route also became an option for some Thankfully the weather held out and the drops only started falling as the last person made their way back into the Sports Complex. New club member Philip Dewey showed us his running pedigree by coming in well ahead of the rest of the field.
Of course there’s nothing like a nice hot cuppa and something to eat after those cold bracing conditions. I think everyone had an enjoyable morning
Thanks to Vicky and Randall for the photos and to the club committee and Paudie who volunteered to marshal the event. It is only by club members giving of their time that others are able to enjoy such events.
